Rutgers poll: Opioid painkillers are in medicine cabinets across N.J.

(, December 17) About one third of households in New Jersey were prescribed opioid pain medication during this past year, according to a recent poll from the Rutgers Center for State Health Policy.

In addition, approximately one-third of those prescribed pain meds say they intend to hold on to leftover painkillers to possibly use in the future if needed.

 “The commonplace nature of prescription opioids puts many thousands in New Jersey at risk of abuse, addiction or worse,” Joel Cantor, a professor of public policy and director of the Center for State Health Policy told the news service.  Read more.
